  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1 envelope instant yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 1/23 cups flour (cake or all purpose)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (light)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3 oz cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 34 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp cloves

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk to about 110°F and mix in the butter until melted. In a large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, yeast, salt, and spices.
  2. Add the milk mixture along with egg and molasses; mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out dough into a rectangle and spread melted butter over it. Mix filling ingredients and sprinkle evenly over dough. Roll tightly and cut into slices.
  5. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise again for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden.
  6. While baking, prepare frosting by mixing cream cheese with powdered sugar and milk until smooth; add vanilla and spices.
  7. Allow rolls to cool slightly before drizzling frosting on top.
