Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line a muffin pan with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together cake flour, baking powder, baking soda, sea salt, and spices.
  3. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time along with vanilla and orange extracts.
  4. Mix in sour cream and one tablespoon of orange zest until well combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients alternating with milk; mix until just combined.
  6. Fill cupcake liners two-thirds full and bake for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.
  8. In another large bowl, beat room temperature butter until creamy. Add in cream cheese until smooth. Then mix in vanilla extract, orange extract, salt, and about one teaspoon of orange zest. Gradually add confectioner's sugar until your frosting is velvety.
  9. Spread or pipe the frosting onto each cooled cupcake using either a knife or pastry bag fitted with your favorite tip. Finish off by sprinkling each cupcake lightly with ground cinnamon.
